For me, ms. Ellis is a great writer and all of her books are a great read. Looking for x was a book of intellectual quality and I recommend it to all readers who like her books or for those looking for a good read. Also, I recommend The Breadwinner which starts off a touching trilogy about the struggle of Parvana in Afganistand. Deborah Ellis, I love you!

From Our Editors

Khyber is a smart, independent 11-year-old with an ex-stripper mom and autistic twin brothers. From a poor neighbourhood, she doesn't have much in common with the kids at school: her best friends are a mean waitress and X, a homeless woman. Khyber knows life would be better if the family had more money, the boys weren't so difficult and her mom were happier, but she's content with her life -- until her world falls apart. Deborah Ellis' Looking for X reveals what happens when Khyber's mom decides that the boys should go into a home -- and X disappears.

Employee Review Bev Chapters # 931, Belleville, ON

A Silver Birch award nominee for children's literature in Ontario, this is the story of eleven-year-old Khyber. Self-named after the Khyber Pass in Afghanistan, she lives with her single mom and twin five-year-old brothers, in the tough Regent Park neighbourhood of Toronto. Khyber's life revolves around caring for her autistic brothers, school and a street woman she names X because X sounds mysterious. Khyber doesn't know where X lives, or where she goes everyday. The novel is a fast-paced, easy to read story about coping with family struggles, school and the streets of Toronto.
