All Fats Are Not Equal

Sheila Tofflemire

I bought this book a while back and used it only rarely. The reason? I just can't agree with some of the information they're feeding people. They slam eggs, which have a lot of nutrients and LOW saturated fat content, yet they promote the use of fried bacon in many recipes. Bacon is HIGH in saturated fat, not to mention the cancer-causing nitrates.

All fats are NOT equal! The book oversimplifies by promoting a low-fat diet. What's needed is a diet that's low in SATURATED fats.

In response to the comment regarding the incorrect or dated nutritional information; the authors do admit in their most recent book, that some of the nutritional information was out of date. The reader should be somewhat aware of this; seeing that the book was published 10 years ago. However, this doesn't mean that many of the recipes in "Looneyspoons" aren't still applicable to a healthy diet today, perhaps with some slight alterations. That being said, someone looking for a up-to-date healthy cook book with similar, simple recipes would be advised to pick up their newest cookbook Eat Shrink and Be Merry.
