The Lull-A-Baby Sleep Plan: The Soothing, Superfast Way to Help Your New Baby Sleep Through the Night...a

by Cathryn Tobin

Rodale Books | August 22, 2006 | Trade Paperback

A renowned pediatrician explains her revolutionary new method for training infants to sleep right... from the start

Dr. Cathryn Tobin, pediatrician of 25 years, midwife, and mother of four, reveals a breakthrough discovery that will transform the way that parents put their infants and toddlers to bed. Dr. Tobin has found that a physiological window of opportunity opens--usually at 6 to 8 weeks--when a baby can learn great sleep habits before bad ones develop. If parents follow her 7-day plan and take advantage of this crucial time in child development, they and their newborn will be sleeping through the night sooner than any other sleep book promises... and without the crying and screaming that comes with other approaches.

This is the first sleep manual that focuses on preventing infant sleep problems before they have a chance to begin. But if a parent has missed the window, there's still hope and HELP: Dr. Tobin's no-cry program for re-training older babies and toddlers. Dr. Tobin developed this program after sleep deprivation caused a car accident that almost cost her life. Since then she has successfully used her method with hundreds of grateful parents.

    Fantastic Book

Short, easy to read and most importantly - it worked! I bought this book when my daughter was 6 weeks old - and waking up like clock work every 1.5 hours over the course of the night. We implemented Tobin's "no cry" philosophy immediately. It took a lot of work and dedication (many nights it would have been easier just to rock her to sleep) but, by 10 weeks old, she was sleeping 7-8 hours straight. Now, age 4 months, she sleeps 12 hours most nights and at least 8 all nights. It worked and, unlike other books, did not expect me to allow a tiny, helpless infant "cry it out".

Parenting is a 24/7 job, and it can get pretty lonely at 3:00 a.m., especially if you're the kind of parent who can't bear to let your child cry himself to sleep. That's why The Lull-a-Baby Sleep Plan is so wonderful. Dr. Cathryn Tobin not only has a gentle, caring approach to your baby, but also has great empathy for what you're going through. New parents can help their infant learn healthy sleep habits from the get-go, and those who've missed the early window of opportunity can backtrack and solve bedtime battles with an older child. Drawing on her years of experience as a midwife, a pediatrician, and a mom, Dr. Tobin illustrates her techniques with a wide variety of sleep problems. This is one book that should be in every parent's library. --Mary Mohler, Editor-at-Large, Parentsmagazine

"Cathryn Tobin gives new parents the encouragement and inspiration to develop the skills they need to help their children sleep. Anyone who has struggled to put a child to bed, night after night, will appreciate the honest, direct and practical approach Tobin uses. As a parent of four children and senior editor at ePregnancy, I know that sleep is one of the toughest issues new parents face. Kudos for a terrific road-map to a good night's sleep for all kids - and their parents." -- Julia Rosien, Senior Editor, ePregnancyMagazine.

Weclome to the Land of Nod: Dr. Tobin teaches us how to recognize and read our kids' cues so we can help them - and us! - get a better nights' sleep.
Her down-to-earth approach is also refreshing. A great read for parents, new and 'old'! -- Kathryn Dorrell, Life Editor, Canadian Living Magazine
The best way I've ever seen to help new parents get more sleep. --Dr Henry Solow, Chief of Medicine, Markham Stouffville Hospital

I thought the first night would be the worse! I was so excited when my three-month-old daughter, Paige, fell asleep on her own that I called Dr C's office and left her this message, You were right about Paige being able to fall asleep on her own. But you were wrong when you said it would take about twenty minutes---it only took ten! --Camille

This really works! Dr. C's advice completely changed my life and I have passed it on to others who feel the same way! --Lisa T.

I'm pretty born again about the Lull-a-Baby Sleep Plan. I followed the 7 day plan and even though I was exhausted, I didn't give up. It wasn't easy for me to listen to my baby fuss, but I never felt like I was deserting her. Thankfully, Cali began to sleep for longer stretches before the week was up. --Stephanie, I knew what I was doing wasn't working, but I didn't know how to make things right.

"a wonderful book... If Dr. Tobin can't be your pediatrician, read her book!"--Jack Canfield, coauthor of Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul
