This is a typical Stephen King work of the gruesome and macabre - a
good book for an avid fan but not a choice for a first pick. A lack
of humour and of romance could discourage the odd reader and some
of the gruesome details could do worse. This is an imaginative and
riveting tale about one person's obsession with a writer and his
works. This obsession gets played out when she kidnaps the author
and holds him prisoner while forcing him to write a story. A high
point of the book is the writer's progress in a story, within a
story, that could cost him his life. Annie is a quite alarming
character that could lead some readers to suffer nightmare.
Overall, however, Misery is a deliciously fast-paced
thriller.
