Mark Cullens Ontario Gardening

by Mark Cullen

Penguin Group Canada | December 10, 2002 | Trade Paperback

As part of a family that has made Ontario gardens their business for more than 50 years, Mark Cullen is ideally qualified to write about gardening in the province. Since Ontario spans more climate zones than do most countries, the emphasis here is on practical, general advice that gardeners from across Canada will find useful, with specific tips and suggestions with the Ontario gardener in mind.

He begins with ornamental gardens, both large and small, and looks at the increasing importance of native gardening in the province. He discusses the challenges and pleasures of northern gardens, and has suggestions for people who want to maintain a garden at their cottage. The edible garden is covered extensively, and Mark has practical advice on gardening basics such as soil preparation, planting, watering and mulching.

Mark Cullen's Ontario Gardening also includes an invaluable list of Mark's 100 favourite plants for Ontario-plants that are reliable performers, well suited to the Ontario climate and add beauty to any garden. Sixteen pages of stunning full-colour photographs by Andrew Leyerle wonderfully illustrate the beauty and diversity of Ontario's gardens.
