This book is quite an interesting look at one of our oldest traditions. The history behind these traditions was very informative as it is always nice to know where these things came from. The main portion of this book revolves around the survey that was conducted by the authors, looking at the causes of some of the major stumbling points in marriages today. To me the book brings to light the lack of communication and selfishness in our current society. I really couldn’t believe that so few people would have little or no discussion about how they expect to live their lives after marriage. Like the author writes, people are more diligent when purchasing a house than entering into marriage. This book should be high on anybody’s list of reading before entering into marriage. Both partners should read this book and use it to discuss their future and what they both want. We take these things for granted that everything will just work out. Well, with the staggering statistics of divorce in our society maybe before entering into marriage people will be more proactive and give their marriage a more solid footing to start then just the hope of what you are doing is the right thing.
