Mary, Mary

by James Patterson

Key Porter Books | September 1, 2007 | Trade Paperback

FBI Agent Alex Cross is on vacation with his family in Disneyland when he gets a call from the Director. A well-known actress was shot outside her home in Beverly Hills. Shortly afterward, an editor for the Los Angeles Times receives an e-mail describing the murder in vivid details. Alex quickly learns that this is not an isolated incident. The killer, known as Mary Smith, has done this before and plans to kill again.

Right from the beginning, this case is like nothing Alex has ever been confronted with before. Is this the plan of an obsessed fan or a spurned actor, or is it part of something much more frightening? Now members of Hollywood''s A-list fear they''re next on Mary''s list, and the case grows by blockbuster proportions as the LAPD and FBI scramble to find a pattern before Mary can send one more chilling update.

This was by far the best Cross book ever written. It's full of the usual twists and turns but has some genuine moments as well. We see more of Alex's non-cop life and his personal issues surrounding that. As usual, there is a huge twist towards the end that keeps you racing through the pages for more. I would highly recommend this book to any mystery reader out there.

Fast paced, one of James Pattersons' best books to date! Would highly recommend.

Through a friend in the industry I was able to get an advance copy of Mary, Mary. To be truthful I had given up on Patterson (even though I have met the man and find him to be a great interview). His five books a year written in collaboration (actually written by others with him stamping his name on them!) Just never did it for me, and his last Cross novel London Bridges was way off the mark. Anyway this book is Classic Patterson, think Kiss the Girls in La La land. A crisp, fast moving thriller with awesome twists and turns that keep you turning pages right up to the surprise ending! Oh! I also have to recommend the thriller hit A Tourist in the Yucatan! Combine this with Mary, Mary as a gift to your your favorite thriller lover this Xmas and you can't go wrong!

About the Author

James B. Patterson (born March 22, 1947) is an award-winning American author. Formerly an advertising executive for J. W. Thompson in the early 1990s, Patterson came up with the slogan "Toys R Us Kid". Shortly after his success with Along Came A Spider he retired from the firm and devoted his time to writing. The novels featuring his character, Alex Cross, a black forensic psychologist formerly of the Washington, D.C. Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation, now working as a private psychologist and government consultant, are the most popular books among Patterson readers. James Patterson has been criticized by Stephen King, who called Patterson''s books "dopey thrillers".[citation needed] Patterson shrugged off the comments, stating that he wants to be the "thrillingest thriller writer of all time".[citation needed] James Patterson has also been put as one of Forbes magazine''s top 100 celebrities.
