Me Hungry!

by Jeremy Tankard
Illustrator: Jeremy Tankard

Candlewick Press | February 9, 2010 | Board Book

An inventive Stone Age boy takes matters into his own hands in a humorous, satisfying story for every young child who wants something NOW. Now a board book!

"Me hungry!" the boy pleads. "Me busy," say his preoccupied mom and dad. So the boy decides to go hunting, setting his sights on an elusive rabbit, a prickly porcupine, a too-mean tiger, and finally, a like-minded mammoth who's more than happy to help. With comical, energetic illustrations and a simple, repetitive text, this child-friendly tale will have little listeners fully engaged right up to the funny final twist.

Edwin is a little cave boy who just wants something to eat, unfortunately his family is too busy to help him out. He decides that he'll go hunting, and as he does he encounters a variety of animals that for one reason or another are unsuitable to eat. Just as he's about to give up, he runs (literally) into a woolly mammoth and the two become friends. They help each other gather some apples just as Edwin's father calls him to dinner. This is an adorable story with simple dialogue that young children learning to read will love.

    No patronizing kids' book here!

Jeremy Tankard's new book once again doesn't patronize our little ones. Me Hungry focusses on healthy choices with fun, emotive pictures. Check out his first book, Grumpy Bird, for even more fun with your kids. My kids are entranced!
