Men Of The Otherworld

by Kelley Armstrong

Random House Of Canada | January 26, 2010 | Trade Paperback

Kelley Armstrong - Globe and Mail and New York Times bestselling author - is back with a true gift for her fans: an exclusive glimpse into the minds and hearts of the men of the Pack

Kelley Armstrong has made a huge name for herself with her trademark portrayals of the strong, unusually gifted women who populate her Otherworld.

But her fans have always wanted to know more about the men who love these women, and revealed in the pages of this collection are the life stories - and secrets - of Clay and Jeremy, two of the sexiest and most mysterious men of the Otherworld.

Originally published by the author on her website (but since removed), these thrilling tales reveal how Clay became a werewolf, how he came to be adopted by Jeremy, Jeremy's struggles to become the Alpha of the Pack and his terrible conflict with his father, Malcolm. A brand-new story, written for this collection, reveals how Jeremy came to be a visionary and healer: touchy-feely qualities uncommon in a werewolf.

The result is a perfect companion to Kelley's bestselling series and a treasure for fans.

If you read any of Kelley's other books about the Werewolves and were wondering how Clay came to be a werewolf - read this book! Very well written and paced...couldn't put it down.

Werewolves don't have the luxury of sentimentality

As young, curious and naive Clayton begins his transformation into a werewolf, he is befriended by Jeremy, another one of his kind, who is anything but your typical Alpha Male. As their bond deepens, Jeremy's aggressive and undermining father, Malcolm, enters the picture to make life unbearable. Loyalty remains strong in the Pack but when Jeremy is faced with an important decision, the agonizing pain of trying to integrate Clayton into human society while teaching him the ways of raw survival, now seems all too much to handle.

Kelley Armstrong is a powerful author with a niche for writing empowered stories about mystical women. In Men of the Otherworld, Kelley continues to show her brilliance of story telling and takes a different path this time, focusing on the strength and complexity of werewolves: Clayton, Jeremy and Malcolm, all males with extraordinary gifts.

Although I had initially thought that this book would have four completely separate stories, they were woven in perfectly to create a thought-provoking and emotional journey through words.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys tales that extend one's mind into other spiritual worlds, yet can be thrown back into the harsh realms of reality, without a moment's notice.

I read this a while back and I really enjoyed it. I love reading the men's perspective of this series. It was a welcome change. I also thought it was great to know the character's history. It made reading Kelley Armstrong's books even more interesting just to know what the characters are coming from.

    Was Refreshing

Having read a number of paranormal romances, I thought this book was another one of the lot. That's what I get when I judge a book by its cover.

Written from the point of view of a boy who is bitten by a werewolf and then brought into the Pack society. My attention is captured allusions to future events. The language seems poetic, and wistful. The POV switches at the end and paves the way for the next book. I'm looking forward to it.

This book was refreshing after all the paranormal romances I've read. The romance doesn't even enter until the end of the book, and even then it's secondary.
