I really enjoyed reading Monster. The way it was written was so unique and different, I found I couldn't put the book down. I saw what it was like through many different peoples eyes, and loved the struggle between the lead, his family, and everyone in the court room. Monster was a very good book, and, months after reading it, I still think about it, and i still havn't decided whether I think he's guilty or not.

ok we had a school project one this and my entire class was like he's innocent though when reading this book( which is written in a screenplay/journal format from Steve's pov) we are left to wonder did he commit the crime. the book is a fast pacing book that leaves many questions behind

I'm a positive person, so I'll start with the good points. First of all, I liked the new method of writing, which shows us the different characters, points of view on matters. Second, I liked the overall story and the effect it can have on young readers on how the choices we make in life have consequences. BUT, I thought in some parts the story was a little vague concerning what really did happen in that robbery, and whether the main character was involved or not. Also, I think the book didn't need to take 281 pages. In fact, I think It could have been published in 50 pages or less. The amount of paper that was wasted is just heartbreaking. The pictures weren't really necessary and I don't think they had anything to do with the story line. But hey, that's just my opinion.

This is an older book but it just came across my radar and I'm glad it did. Steve is in jail - he is going on trial for felony murder. He is accused of being involved in a drugstore robbery where the owner was shot and killed. He supposedly checked out the store first to see if any cops were inside. He can't handle prison or the trial and is freaking out so he decides to treat it like a movie - writing the script and blocking out the scenes just like he does in film class. He just wishes it was only the movie. THe book takes us through the trial. Because of the format it is a quick read, easy for reluctant readers. There is a little bit of language describing some of the rougher facts of life of a prison but remarkably little and it shouldn't be enough to put parents off this book. It is really powerful. When the book ends we don't really know who was telling the truth and who wasn't. It was up for a lot of different awards and definitely should find a new audience today.

The book was excellent. It was well written and had great court room scenes. The way it was written was easy to understand and made the book much more interesting.
