"Finally, a pregnancy book that includes essential pre-pregnancy concerns, such as planning and physical and emotional preparation! Ann Douglas has written her masterwork The Mother of All Pregnancy Books in the same unpretentious, concise style as her Unofficial Guide. She also stays true to her goal of informing parents and prospective parents as completely as possible, so they will be well-equipped to sort through the pros and cons of their own life choices as they see them. Not one to forgo difficult issues, her chapter entitled 'When Pregnancy Isn't Perfect' is one of the best I've read, both for its sensitivity and for its emphasis on coping and prevention. This is a book that will serve women and their families well." --A. Christine Harris, Ph.D., author of The Pregnancy Journal

This book was informative in some areas. However the book seemed to give you the dark side of pregnancy. I found the book too negative. Not very up-lifting. The focus was all the things that can go wrong. It left me more stressed than informed. Gave away my other pregnancy books, not this one. Didn't want to scare first time mothers.

This book covers everything, right from trying to decided when to start "trying" to the child being born and much more! All the Canadian facts are so helpful, because many books quote american facts. I would strongly reccommend this book to any couple look for some comfort and simple english terminology.

I am your typical type A personality. I need to know everything about everything and want to be prepared for any scenario I may face. Some people told me that I wouldn't want to get pregnant if I read this book. That it can scare people trying to get pregnant for the first time. If you are a person who wants all the facts you will love this book. Yes it talks about the not so sunny-side of pregnancy. But I for one would rather be prepared to face the less than happy situations that can… read more

Informative and easy to read - eh! 5

I really enjoyed this book! I chose this one because it included discussions on preconception and is for Canadians - nice to have the references to Canadian health care and options. I found it very easy to read, but still had a lot of useful information in it. I also got a book that was more 'scientific' to refer to as needed, but would highly recommend this book!

I enjoyed this book over other pregnancy books because it is written by a Canadian and it was easy to read. It had lots of references that were Canadian, which have been very useful. I liked this book better than What to Expect When Expecting.
