Knit to flatter and fit!

It sounds simple. But if every knitter knew how to do it, the unflattering sweater and the top that doesn't fit would be things of the past. Unfortunately, that's not the world we live in, and knitwear designer Sally Melville knows why: too many knitters choose the wrong pattern for their shape and size!

After decades of teaching, designing, and writing about knitting, Sally Melville knows how to customize knitting patterns to fit a wide variety of body types perfectly. With a little planning and subtle alterations, you can make a garment that is just right for you! In Mother-Daughter Knits, Sally shares this knowledge for the first time. Together with her daughter, fellow knitwear designer Caddy Melville Ledbetter, Sally demystifies the process of picking the right pattern and modifying it to your body's advantage. Whether you're a beginning or experienced knitter, young or mature, an hourglass or a triangle, Sally and Caddy have you covered!

The authors have designed 30 customizable garments for women of all shapes, heights, and ages, including:

• a slimming Jackie Kennedy-style Camelot coat,
• a reversible tank top with a scoop neck,
• a Jane Austen-inspired jacket with an empire waist,
• a flirty top that enhances feminine curves.

With fascinating insight, practical advice, and patterns for both classic and avant-garde tastes, Mother-Daughter Knits just might be the most useful guide a knitter could have-whether she's young or just young at heart.

From the Critics

"Thank you, Caddy and Sally, for creating this beautiful collection of projects I can knit for my mom-and that she can knit for me! And thank you even more for your crystal-clear explanation of how to create the most flattering knitwear for any shape. It''s a must-read for any knitter!"
-Debbie Stoller, author of the Stitch 'n Bitch series of knitting books, and editor-in-chief of BUST Magazine

"This is an extraordinary book. It combines Sally's flair for pairing wearability with meticulous design and Caddy's ability to achieve exciting creations without unnecessary complexity. The mutual respect and affection that guided this joint mother-daughter venture will no doubt make the garments feel warmer."
-Debbie New, author of Unexpected Knitting

"A loving and inspired creative dialogue between mother and daughter, this book pays tribute to the very multigenerational soul of our craft."
- Clara Parkes, author of The Knitter's Book of Yarn and publisher of KnittersReview.com

"Having a new Sally Melville book to page through is like being at a pajama party with a trusted friend: fun, comforting, and energizing all at the same time. This time, Sally has brought her daughter, Caddy, to the knitting party as co-author and designer, and their resulting book is full of fresh and flattering designs from two different design perspectives, plus a lot of great information on just how and where to change a pattern to fit you properly. Mother-Daughter Knits is a delight that had me reaching for my needles and digging through my yarn stash more than once."
- Amy R. Singer, author of Big Girl Knits and More Big Girl Knits

Detailed explanations. Love the variety and suitability of styles. Very glad to see different sizings, from the very small to the very large, and details about the proper fit and drape of a garment. Cute and quirky comments and history of the mother and daughter team. Hats off to you, as always.
