Mr. Perfect

by Linda Howard

Simon & Schuster | August 15, 2000 | Hardcover

"What would make the perfect man?" That's the delicious topic heating up the proceedings at a certain table of professional women at their favorite restaurant, Ernie's, tonight: Mr. Perfect. What qualities would he have? Would he be tall, dark, and handsome? Caring and warmhearted -- or will just muscular do? Jaine Bright and her three girlfriends start off with the basics -- he'd be faithful and reliable, the responsible type, with a great sense of humor.

But as the conversation picks up momentum, so do the quartet's requirements for Mr. Perfect -- and they write down a tongue-in-cheek checklist that's both funny and racy. The next thing they know, the List, as it has come to be called, spreads like wildfire throughout their company and sizzles along e-mail lines. And it doesn't stop there: the List becomes an overnight sensation, grabbing the interest of local newspapers and television coverage. No one expected this avalanche of attention for something that began as a joke among friends. And the joke turns deadly serious when one of the four women is murdered...

The prime suspect in the case is the victim's boyfriend, who was one of a number of men who found the List sexist and offensive. But an impenetrable alibi gets him off the hook. Now, with the help of Jaine's neighbor, an unpredictable police detective, the puzzle must be solved -- and time is running out as a deadly stalker targets the three remaining friends. Now, knowing whom to trust and whom to love is a matter of survival -- as the dream of Mr. Perfect becomes a chilling nightmare.

Putting her "trademark darkly sensual style" "(Booklist)" into high gear, "New York Times" bestselling author Linda Howardcreates a tour de force of passion and suspense in this electrifying new page-turner, and proves that appearances can be deceiving -- and deadly.

Linda Howard is a great writer and really draws you in but this novel really grabbed my attention and my funny bone too! Imagine making a list of your requirements for a man with your best girlfriends to help you out. What could possibly go wrong with that? In this novel everything does and the four main woman learn that expectations can be a deadly thing. Add a sexy male neighbour who just happens to be a cop and you get a dangerously good novel. All I can say is you'd have to be dead not to enjoy this book Mr. Perfect.

Linda Howard has always been a favorite writer of mine and as most romance writers do when they become really popular they are published in hardcover. Well Ms.Howard is and always will be worth the price of a hardcover book. I don't have the patience to wait till the paperback version comes out and the libraries are too slow in getting her books in...so I put out the cash and have never been disappointed... and Mr. Perfect is such a book, fast, funny, sexy and a really great read. In fact I have re-read it to savor her at a slower pace, and believe me it is well worth the price and well worth 5 out of 5 stars...a job very well done Ms. Howard..well done indeed !!!!!

Employee Review Sarah from Chapters # 916, Kelowna, BC

Four female friends get to talking about what makes Mr. Perfect after work over drinks. You can imagine their vision. It just so happens that a psychopath they work with takes offense to their speculations, and starts a killing spree. The book seemed to struggle as to whether it was about the romance of Jaine (one of the friends) and Sam (the sexy cop next door) or about a serial killer. Personally I found Jaine and Sam to be a fun crime-bumbling duo, and it seems as though the author is setting them up for further adventures.
