My Sister's Keeper: A Novel

by Jodi Picoult

Pocket | April 1, 2004 | Hardcover

"New York Times" bestselling author Jodi Picoult is widely acclaimed for her keen insights into the hearts and minds of real people. Now she tells the emotionally riveting story of a family torn apart by conflicting needs and a passionate love that triumphs over human weakness.

Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate--a life and a role that she has never challenged...until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister--and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves.

"My Sister's Keeper" examines what it means to be a good parent, a good sister, a good person. Is it morally correct to do whatever it takes to save a child's life, even if that means infringing upon the rights of another? Is it worth trying to discover who you really are, if that quest makes you like yourself less? Should you follow your own heart, or let others lead you? Once again, in "My Sister's Keeper, " Jodi Picoult tackles a controversial real-life subject with grace, wisdom, and sensitivity.

Jodi is one of my all time favorite authors, and this book just tops of her list of books. Every book of hers I cant put down, but this one exceeded my expectations. I read it twice in one month, thats how much I love it. If you want a book that has a little of everything in it, read this. It will make you laugh, cry and think about life all in one paragraph! A must read :) and one of my all time favs!

    Wow. Incredible.

Wow. Just, wow. Throughout the whole book, I was bracing myself for when the moment came that I'd been expecting. Then, in the last 50 pages, you find out information that changes everything. Then again, on the third last page, the book takes another turn that you definitely wouldn't see coming, and it breaks your heart into even smaller pieces than it would have if what you were originally expecting had happened. I loved this book, even if it made me cry. In fact, I love it for that very reason. Any book that can bring out such emotions strong enough to make you cry, curse out loud, or refuse to put it down even though you're beyond exhausted couldn't possibly be described as anything less than incredible. This is the first book I've ever read by Jodi Picoult, but I can say right now that it definitely will not be the last.

    Was Bored Reading It

I found this book very hard to get into, and was rather bored reading it. I ended up not finishing the book due to the lack of interest in reading it. I think it was due more to the style of the book then the subject itself.
