NEXUS: A novel

by Deborah Morrison, Arvind Singh
Editor: Michael Michael Davie

Manor House Publishing Inc. | September 30, 2006 | Trade Paperback

NEXUS is one of the most unusual novels you're ever likely to read - and one of the most spiritually fulfilling and enjoyable.

Written almost entirely in the present tense, and incorporating spiritual teachings and Mystical Poetry selections, NEXUS follows the soul-searching journeys of an odd mix of people thrown together at a spiritual retreat designed to help them cope with the pain in their lives and overcome their shortcomings to find the centre of their being, the Nexus.

Central character Logan is a stressed-out, suicidal American-Canadian journalist, overwhelmed by a series of losses in his tragic life and beset by visions of a spiritual guru, when he comes upon a chance opportunity to meet up with the guru of his visions.

He soon finds himself on a jet headed for a small town in Canada and realizes he's embarking on a remarkable journey of self-discovery and self-worth that's connected with everyone and everything around him. Yet nightmarish thoughts of suicide return to haunt him.
Can Logan Andrews exorcise inner demons propelling him to self-destruction before it's too late?

Following his vivid dream, Logan is guided to a spiritual retreat where he meets his lost love, Sarah, along with an arrogant millionaire, a grandmotherly woman and two insightful teachers.

Problems soon emerge for Logan and others at the retreat. What happens to each character and the depth of their personal experiences makes NEXUS a journey of transformation… and a compelling and captivating read.

    Remarkable journey

I read "Nexus" with little expectation but I become completely engrossed by the story, particularly since the plot was nicely paced and offered practical wisdom within the narrative.

The story leaves a deep impression, which I am still fully exploring. It has a dream-like quality and the descriptive elements seem like a play or movie.

For those looking for a novel with depth, "Nexus" is the perfect answer to your search.

NEXUS is incredibly inspiring for its portrayal of characters struggling with life. It allows you to follow the journey of different characters at a spiritual retreat and through their experiences you learn about the human spirit.

The book never becomes preachy. It allows the reader to reflect on the powerful message communicated throughout the story at a subconscious level. Even with a strong message, the book never feels like it's trying too hard. Instead it has a free-flowing quality to it that keeps your interest.

Many different strategies are presented for overcoming personal pain, including visualizations, meditation exercises, breath work along with psychological and spiritual insights.

While the book deals a lot with depression, you don't have to be depressed to gain practical wisdom from NEXUS. Ultimately, we learn that the human heart can expand through genuine love and compassion, and pains and hurts can be overcome. That's a very important lesson in life.

This is a moving novel with a unique vision and a dramatic story that in ways feels like a play or movie.

NEXUS is an incredible book! I can't find the right words to describe it, yet I wholeheartedly recommend it for its spiritual depth, compassion and human emotion. The story is one of transformation and personal growth but with an uncanny understanding of human psyche suffering from pain and hurt.

I highly recommend NEXUS for anyone seeking an original story with spiritual depth.

    Captivating book

As a friend of the publisher, I received an advance copy of this book before its release in October. The first page got my attention because it begins with a suicide scene. At first, I thought the book might glorify suicide but I soon learned that the novel has a deep spiritual message of compassion, healing and the importance of relationships.

As a fan of similar books by James Redfield, Dan Millman and Robin Sharma, I also loved this story. Though it is different in style and voice. It weaves the voices of two authors into a cohesive and compelling narrative. You rarely see that in fiction.

By the end of the book, I could see what the journey was all about for the main character and everyone else. The book begins dramatically and takes a few chapters to get going but it develops into a wonderful story with many spiritual insights. I felt emotionally satisfied by the end of it and that's always good when a book can do that.
