NOT SUITABLE FOR FAMILY VIEWING

by Vicki Grant

HarperCollins Publishers Ltd | August 10, 2009 | Trade Paperback

Robin has everything a girl could want. Thanks to her mother-the internationally beloved talk show host Mimi Schwartz-Robin's got the money, the means and the connections to make even her wildest dreams come true. so why, then, does she choose to sit alone in a dark room watching endless reruns of you, you and Mimi?

Don't ask Robin. She doesn't know-not, at least, until the bizarre discovery of an old high-school ring propels her to ditch New York for a tiny Nova scotian fishing village. In her quest to solve the mystery behind the ring's origin, Robin finds more than a renewed joie de vivre. she discovers love, the truth of her own background- and the shocking secret that helped make her mother a star.

It's as if the picture suddenly blows up to a full-screen image. The rest of the room shrinks down to a little icon in the corner. I'm stunned. until this very second, I didn't seriously believe Mimi had anything to do with Port Minton. Sure, she had the ring but-I don't know-I figured I'd find some totally reasonable explanation for that. This is not reasonable.
I stare at the picture in the bulletin. It's blurry and faded, but it's definitely Mimi. What would a kid from new york be doing in a place like this? What would a Jewish kid be doing in a Baptist church bulletin?

When I saw this book , it was in one of my friends lockers at school. She had just started reading it and said I could have it when she was done. But I just couldn't wait any longer and took it . This book was pretty good. But it was different, definetly different than what the cover makes it look like. I thought it was amazing because this attractive rich teenager goes from her mothers loft, to an almost abandoned town in Nova Scotia in the spanned of about 2 or 3 days. It surprised me durastically at the things that happen in this book . while reading it though , I had to let the book never leave my sight. One of my best friends Jacob would take the book when I wasn't looking and start reading it his self. So, that already tells you that the book is a good read seeing as so many people are wanting to read it. Getting back on topic, I think this book is very good. But I think there should have been way more romance. Lol

when you look at this book you should think about the saying " don't judge a book by its cover", because this is one of those books! you should also think " don't judge a book by its title! thats something i made up but it is true! in my opinion the cover of this book made it look and sound a bit inappropriate, but when i read the actual book it was fantastic! i totally loved it! the beginning was a bit boring but i kept reading and it was awesome! i definetly recommend it! bye!!! When I first started reading Not Suitable for Family Viewing I thought it was going to be yet another one of those books where the celebrities teenaged daughter would be a Paris Hilton type and the storyline would be all about her and her equally rich friends doing stupid things.

I was extremely surprised when I discovered that this is not the direction this book was heading into at all.

Robin is supposed to be on top of the world, she is the daughter of talk-show host Mimi - they have it all, yet Robin can't seem to get it together, not even long enough to get out of a dark room - Robin is obviously depressed and nobody seems to be "getting" that.

However, life has something in mind for Robin when she discoveres, purely by accident a ring that will send Robin on a quest to find out about a much hidden past history belonging to her family - in the process Robin will also discover much about herself and her role in her own family.

This book was absolutely delightful. Although it is entertaining and a fun read, it is also loaded with both hidden and open messages about ife and how to never judge a book by its cover.

Author Grant does a fine job of showing the growth process Robin will go through as she discovers more about herself and her family - making her understand who she is a little bit more.

Very well written, without ever being too preachy.
