From Naked Ape to Superspecies: Humanity and the Global Eco-Crisis

by David Suzuki, Holly Dressel

D&M Publishers, Inc. | April 1, 2004 | Trade Paperback

In this revised and fully up to date edition of From Naked Ape to Superspecies, David Suzuki and Holly Dressel describe how we have evolved beyond our needs, trampling other species in the process. We learn about how human arrogance -- demonstrated by our disregard for the small and microscopic species that constitute the Earth''s engine and our reckless use of powerful herbicides or genetically engineered crops -- is threatening the health of our children and the safety of our food supply. But it''s not too late to change our course.

From Naked Ape to Superspecies shows us that we are at a turning point -- we can either push ahead on our path to destruction or we can reshape our place in nature and prosper. A new introductory chapter provides an overview of how the world has changed since the first edition was published. The final chapter of the book has been revised, and new examples and analyses have been added to the existing chapters throughout the book.

Published in partnership with the David Suzuki Foundation.

An interesting and informative read - I liked how Suzuki intertwined the environment with human health (including the dangers of genetic engineering and GMOs) and the economy. His and Dressel's perspective on our failing economic model was enlightening. Inspiring and motivating!

Great book! This book was the beginning to my environmental and mental awareness. Its a book that offers criticism as well as solutions. Easy to follow and a very riveting read. I will recommend it 100 percent.

This book tells it all. A must read for anyone remotely concerned about the future of plants, animals and the earth as a whole. In your face facts that make it impossible to put the book down. Enjoy.

Everyone who drinks water, eats food and breathes the air, needs to read this book. I never thought of myself as a "tree hugger" until I got sick and started looking for answers. Thanks to David Suzuki and Holly Dressel for having the courage to speak up; this book is one more confirmation for me that our world is in crisis...but as the authors point out "many environmental problems are slow motion catastophes. We don't see blood and people dying right away, so after a while we come habituated to the warnings." An excellent read!
