This manifesto is more than just a novel: it's a winding, aimless, surreal investigation of our deepest fears and loftiest ideals. It's easy to understand why Naked Lunch has become such an important key to our collective psyche. Bill Lee isn't just a junkie who flees New York for the relative permissiveness of Tangiers: he represents the American ideal of freedom and free will. And Interzone isn't just a hallucinatory vision of an oppressive, totalitarian state: it's an American society running rampant and out of control. Instead of a whining text complaining about the state of our culture, William S. Burroughs has created a sense of urgency and importance that encourages readers to take action.

I've read somewhere that this is a cut n paste job made for artistic value to deviate from what readers are used to --but this is irrelevant. It's a masterpiece of political commentary, looking deep from within the mind of one of those who are in the midst of what is really happening... seeming to use drugs in order to cope with it... and realizes the horrid state of affairs Western society is actually emmersed in. Put Bill Burroughs alongside Samuel Beckett, George Orwell and Oscar Wilde, in t
