3.5 stars. Myra is a nurse and does home care. She has never been a particularly social person and always found it hard to make friends. When she has to start seeing a new patient, she recognizes the name immediately: Chip Reardon was the guy in high school who all the girls had a crush on, including Myra. He is dying from brain cancer. It was good. I was able to identify a bit with Myra. I also thought Berg did a really good job with some of the different characters. The book was short and very fast to read, so it might have been nice to get to know some of the other characters even better, but for it being so short, I thought it was well done.

I am a visiting nurse the same age as Myra and am equally as committed to homecare. What concerns me is that Berg paints a very different picture of the visiting nursing that I do. I see nine to ten patients a day and certainly do not bring to patients homes, my pets or children or friends and I am very careful about protecting my patients by adhering to our policy of confidentiality. Berg's story follows an old theme. Plain girl makes a success of her life and now is needed by a jock from her past who never noticed her. The dinner party arranged for Myra was a bit much, as well as her desire to end her life with him. What Berg does show us is that love can resurface and change just as we change and that the jock does have some substance after all. I enjoyed the book as a light read. I am working on my own visiting nurse story. I hope I have as much success.
