Although I have the outmost respect for Arnold Schwarzenegger, I must say that this 800+ page book is nothing other than outdated systems and programs. This revised version does include some new concepts but still holds to the old style 4sets, 10 reps, 3 exercise scheme of the past.
There are many books out there written by fitness pros that will provide much more indepth and scientific approaches to muscle building - and save you time in the gym at the gym while you're at it.
Unless you are genetically endowed (as Arnold was) and/or appreciate "the chemical" approach to bodybuilding - the programs proposed will provide very little results if any.
All this to say, look for a little less content and a little more sustence!

If I could only read one book to learn about bodybuilding, it would be this book. The advice is given through the lense of Arnold's own experience. It's not some unknown guy just talking about theories based on a few studies - it's a detailed account of how Arnold trained and what the Golden Age bodybuilders did to build the greatest physiques the world has ever seen.

This is an awesome book. I was reading through it really quickly, and then bought it as a base point to know exactly how to achieve great muscle mass. All other books tell you vaguely what you need to do and what you need to eat, but this book goes into massive details.

Definitely a fascinating book for anyone who is a bodybuilding buff.

The problem with Arnold's book however, is that without the great genetics (muscle recovery & body type) or the drug support that is required to be a top bodybuilder, the average guy will simply overtrain and fail to enjoy all the benefits that weightlifting has to offer (using his methods).

Also, there is not enough information covering the safe and proper execution of squats and deadlifts - two of the best muscle-building exercises can be also two of the most hazardous when not performed correctly.

For those who have the book, and have not gotten the results they thought they would, it would be worth examining how men trained before steriods began to change the so-called fitness world back in the 1950s.

This is the best book on the subject of bodybuilding. With over 800 pages there is as much information as you could want, including info and tips on hundreds of specific exercises. The book is divided into sections, so you can easily find what you want and pass what you don't. It has great and accurate information, and will be the best book out there until Arnold makes a revised edition.

For Arnold fans, there are hundreds of great pictures...but this is just what it says, and encyclopedia of bodybuilding. If you want Arnolds biography, pick up The Education of a Bodybuilder, by Arnold Schwarzenegger (which is a great book, by the way) (The encyclopedia does have info on Arnold, but is not as detailed as the book I recommended)
