About the Author

Mary Smyth and Fred Hollingshurst have been hiking the trails of Newfoundland and Labrador for many years. They both have a keen interest in the natural settings; flora, fauna and geology, of the trails they hike. They hike all year round, some of the most memorable hikes are in the wintertime on snowshoes. Mary and Fred have been writing a hiking column for the local newspaper "the Telegram" for five years, their informative, entertaining style of writing is reflected in their hiking guide. They have both hiked in many parts of Europe and Canada and can honestly claim to love the hikes of Newfoundland the most.

From the Author

In making this guide book we have had a tremendous amount of fun, have met some wonderful characters in smaller communities and have developed a keen sense of pride in this wonderful province. We need to nurture our wild places, help to build and maintain an understanding that once our wild places are gone they will never return.

About the Illustrator

The book design is the exceptional work of the 2005 ICE Awards Winner Vessela Brakalova and her company Vis-à-vis Graphics Inc. Submitted photographs and captions coupled with color and creative insight have made this hikers guide book also a must for any library.
