I love Nigella Lawson's writing as much as I enjoy reading and trying her recipes. She is so honest in admitting her own contradictions, e.g., she often repeats easy, favourite recipes when pressed for time. The big message of this book is a well-stocked pantry of condiments, spices and storage items such as shallots, garlic, ginger, etc. These are the ingredients that 'ring the changes' from recipe to recipe. Express cooking doesn't mean boring or timing recipes as North American cooking mavens do. I love reading her introductions to recipes. Her prose is breezy, elegant and informative, all at the same time.
