This book was so great. It reminded me a lot of the Darren Shan saga which I loooove. Plenty of twists and turns. Looking forward to reading the next book.

I have been wanting to read this one since I first heard about it over a year and a half ago. A variety of reasons, some beyond my control, kept me from it until yesterday. Daughter brought it home from her school library. While it is intended as a teen novel, it has enough to keep an adult interested. Fifteen year old Zach has lived at Peterborough Civic Hospital, in the "nut ward" since he was eight. His father was killed in a freak accident while on an archeological dig. Zach was bitten by something and lapsed into a coma. When he awoke he was changed, he couldn't go outside during the day and he had trouble eating almost any food. As he had no living family, it seemed the best choice was to care for him in the hospital until a cure for his unknown illness could be found. All is well until one night when a man driving a motorcycle crashes into the hospital and tells Zach to flee. The story just kept getting better from that point. I found myself calling out to my hubby, who was raised in Peterborough, the changes in location as the story progressed. Rather fun plotting Zach's progress threw out town and the surrounding area. This is not quite your typical vampire novel with blood and gore and frequent feedings on unsuspecting civilians. I can't tell you anything further without spoiling the story. I will recommend this to anyone who enjoys a vampire story.

This book had a lot of surprises which took me completely by surprise . Because this happened and then that happened.There was something about the way this book was written that makes me want to keep reading and reading . 10 out 10 gold star!s**** Lets break it down , Basicly its about a boy name Daniel , he goes by Zach . His parents are dead . Then , he finds out hes a vampire . He finds out the name of his fathers killeer and wants revenge but, is things happen along the way .great read!

Let me tell you one thing; this book completely caught me off guard. It's full of surprises. Although I thought the author rushed it towards the ending, it is a definite recommendation.

This story was amazing - I am awaiting the sequel. I particularly liked the fact that you could not predict the plot, especially the ending. The characters and setting were so vivid - I could easily see this as a movie!

Great novels can be divided into two categories, call them type A and type B. When we read a type B, we marvel at the deft plotting, the way the author is able to paint character and scene, the probing psychological insights, the author's astounding use of language. We could marvel this way as we read Max Turner's novel, Night Runner — but we don't. Why not? Because Night Runner is a type A. When we read a type A great novel, the author and his brilliant writing are no longer visible to us, because we've fallen into a state not unlike a dream. We find ourselves inhabiting a world that is so vivid and real that we forget we're reading fiction. The author is extinguished by the power of the story he or she has produced. Max Turner's hero, Zack Thomson, is, shall we say, unusual. So unusual as to be unreal. But we don't think of him as unreal. He is portrayed so vividly and so sympathetically — in his own distinctive voice — that we believe in him, wholly and unreservedly. And we find ourselves cheering him on. Cheering him on to what? We don't know! We only know that Zack is on a journey, and that he will be tested along the way. Tested severely. We hope he passes his tests and that his destiny will be a happy one. But because we can't be sure how he will fare, and because there are signs that he will fare badly, we turn the pages as fast as we can, and we have to discipline ourselves to not flip ahead to the end. In Zack Thomson, Max Turner has created a unique and original character — and then employed him to tell a story that is at once amusing and a stark reminder that human lives are not tales of unrelieved amusement, but rather tales of choice and chance, played out on a stage where light and dark fight an eternal war. Let us hope that Mr. Turner will bring us many more such stories.

"This is the story of how I died,twice." How can anyone resist such an opening! Each chapter of Night Runner leaves the reader wanting to know what happens next. Everything about the book is appealing; the main characters, the unusual setting , the twists and turns of the plot, the combination of adventure and romance, the dialogue. Highly entertaining, and extremely well written!

Night Runner. A fabulous book. A story featuring adolescent restlessness, romance, tradgedy, fantasy and humour. I very much enjoyed the wild adrenaline ride I felt during the pages of this book. I look forward to reading more Max Turner's works. Thank you Max. Robertson Davies would approve.

an engaging page turner. i really got into it, and am very interested to see what happens next. it has a good group of characters, and an interesting plot. a fun read.

As a teacher I am always looking for books that will grab readers, especially reluctant ones. This book is one of them. Night Runner is a fun, fast paced story with a great sense of humour and suspenseful scenes that keep the pages turning. The characters are wonderfully quirky and Zack's narration is very entertaining. I read it in one sitting. I have started to read it aloud to one of my classes and some students are reading ahead with their own copies! We are already hoping for a sequel.
