The No-Cry Sleep Solution for Toddlers and Preschoolers: Gentle Ways to Stop Bedtime Battles and Improve Your Child’s Sleep: Foreword by Dr…

by Elizabeth Pantley

McGraw-Hill Companies,Inc. | April 25, 2005 | Trade Paperback

Guaranteed to help parents reclaim sweet dreams for their entire family

New from the bestselling author of the classic baby sleep guide!

Getting babies to sleep through the night is one thing; getting willful toddlers and energetic preschoolers to sleep is another problem altogether. Written to help sleep-deprived parents of children ages one to five, The No-Cry Sleep Solution for Toddlers and Preschoolers offers loving solutions to help this active age-group get the rest they--and their parents--so desperately need.

A follow-up to Elizabeth Pantley''s megahit The No-Cry Sleep Solution, this breakthrough guide is written in Pantley''s trademark gentle, child-centered style. Parents will discover a wellspring of positive approaches to help their children get to bed, stay in bed, and sleep all night, without having to resort to punishments or other negative and ineffective measures. The No-Cry Sleep Solution for Toddlers and Preschoolers tackles many common nighttime obstacles, including:

  • Refusals to go to bed
  • Night waking and early rising
  • Reluctance to move out of the crib and into a big-kid bed
  • Nighttime visits to the parents'' bed
  • Naptime problems
  • Nightmares, "night terrors," and fears
  • Special sleep issues of twins, special needs children, and adopted children
  • Sleepwalking, sleep talking, snoring, and tooth grinding

Another excellent book by Mrs. Pantley.
I used some of these techniques for my daughter again, especially with the "I don't want to nap" age..

    Excellent book!!!

Speaking as a sleep deprived parent, this book requires you to be patient about results which could take a couple of months to acheive, which is not realistic when you're already at the end of your rope. After reading the whole book I probably only pulled 1 or 2 useful pieces of information out of it. It also doesn't take into account different temperaments in babies. It was a waste of precious time.

The author makes several suggestions on improving sleep in toddlers and takes into account different parenting styles. This is not the typical book which offers one solution for children to sleep, which is most often the "cry in out "method.
Highly recommended for parents who have a long term perspective on the importance of sleep for themsleves and especially for their toddler. Excellent for mothers dedicated to extended breastfeeding.

I just bought this book for my 21 month old breastfeeding son, after hearing about Pantley's first book for infants. Because I support extended breastfeeding, I co-sleep with my son, as is typical with moms who breastfeed over a year. However....it became obvious to me that I needed to try some other sleep routine so I wouldn't always have to nurse him to bed, and this book helped me create one. This is a must for every parent who is compassionate about sleep time routines, who understands the intricacies of toddler sleep patterns, and who wants to gently and lovingly create a sleep time routine that benefits a breastfeeding toddler and mom.
