...Actually, not sure if that strip is in here, but I was solidly impressed with just how many of my favourites were. I guess being wry and deft at skewering absurdity/analyzing the subculture he's devoted a large part of his life to means that Mitch Clem is also that rare creature in the creator sphere: a good judge of his own work. Sometimes, anyway. When he errs, however, it's on the side of cynicism and modesty, rather than self-indulgence. NN2S has a certain accessibility that actually is somewhat ironic for a comic about punk rock; even if you don't always know the band being talked about, or the obscure subculture quirk being held up for ridicule, the humour nevertheless always feels inclusive. You're far more likely to find yourself discovering new music than you are to feel as if you're being mocked for your ignorance. Overall, I think under $10 is a steal for this book...the closest thing to actually getting the strips for free on the internet, but in a prettied-up version you can lend to your friends. Not to mention, it's nice to have documentation for something so easily gone forever the moment the creator decides they don't want to keep paying for the domain name. The only complaints I have are formalist ones: the 7" format is cute, but I would've liked the book to be a tad bigger. Also, I miss having the strip titles...one of those "erring on the side of modesty" things I mentioned earlier. Maybe Mitch was typing on the fly, but sometimes the strip names were damn funny on their own. I can only hope that there's a volume 2 on the way.
