The One And Only Zoe Lama

by Tish Cohen

Harpercollins Canada, Limited | July 14, 2008 | Trade Paperback

Returning to class after a case of the chicken pox, Zoë Costello—known to her many “clients” as the Zoë Lama—is certain the halls of Allencroft Middle School will be a disaster zone after a week without her confident advice. To her shock, everything is running smoothly. Someone has stepped up to take her place, and that girl is Devon Sweeney: tall, blond, pretty, impeccably dressed and a year younger than Zoë. What’s worse, thanks to a classroom merger, she and Zoë are now in the same grade six/seven split class!
Before Zoë can spell usurp, Devon has stolen her best client, charmed their teacher and snatched weekend care of Boris, the class guinea pig, from under Zoë’s nose. There’s no respite at home either. Zoë’s mother wants to move out of the apartment where they’ve lived since she was little. The whole disaster comes together in a school project that pits Zoë against Devon in a mock election. Just when things get worse, Zoë discovers a secret about Devon that could change everything—until she learns something else that changes things even more.
The One and Only Zoë Lama, Tish Cohen’s second book for children, is a funny and charming story of confidence, over-confidence and seeing things for what they really are. Zoë’s comic misadventures and realistic fears will touch the hearts of kids and parents alike, leaving them laughing, cheering and begging for the next Zoë Lama tale.
