Finally, a new series I can get excited about. Okay, so it's not new, I'm very late to the party on this one, and it probably hasn't been that long since the last series I discovered that I fell in love with, but it feels like it. I'm so glad I finally picked up this book. In Stephanie Plum, Janet Evanovich has created a funny, relatable character that I instantly liked. One for the Money is a quick read that keeps you wanting to turn the pages. Steph is an ordinary girl who finds herself in a tough situation - out of money and totally desperate for a job. She knows she's out of her league, but she needs the cash, and as it turns out, actually has some good bounty hunter instincts. But of course, it's not just Stephanie, I loved the whole canvas of characters. Morelli was particularly interesting. I can't wait to keep reading this series and see where that relationship goes. On to book two!

I finally met Stephanie Plum. I had been hearing about these books but never really got around reading them until now. There are 16 books so far and One For The money is the first one.

We meet Stephanie Plum when she loses her job as a lingerie buyer, desperate to find a new one. She's behind on her rent and her car has just been taken away. Not knowing where to turn, she goes to her cousin Vinnie who owns a bail-bond business.

She bacically blackmails Vinnie into giving her a bail-bond job worth $10.000 even though she doesn't know anything about law enforcement and is afraid to use her new gun.

Even if this wasn't enough for Stephanie, now she has to put her emotions in control because the guy she's looking for is a suspect for murder and she knows him very well. She once ran her car over him.

I had hard time figuring out what this book is. Is it crime? Mystery? Comedy? I think they it's all of them. The story is a page turner and Stephanie is such a fun person. The chemistry between her and Joe Morelli was fantastic. I definitely want to see more of them.

Overall I loved the book. It's fun, light and a quick read. This is my first mystery-crime type of book. Although this genre is not my thing I loved it because of the witty characters. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys good comedy with a mix of mystery.

These stories are based on the character Stephanie Plum, and she is so similar to Grafton's main character that you'd think that either Stephanie and Kinsey are sisters, separated at birth, or that Grafton is writing under another name. Where Kinsey is a PI, Stephanie is a bail bond agent. They both care little for men, relationships and their appearance. Where Kinsey has little family to speak of, Stephanie has a quirky family with a nosey, know-it-all mother, a passive father, and a grandmother to die for. The humour in these books is so "Sue" that you forget you are reading books written by someone else.

About the Author

Janet Evanovich is the author of the Stephanie Plum books, including Two for the Dough and Sizzling Sixteen, and the Diesel & Tucker series, including Wicked Appetite. Janet studied painting at Douglass College, but that art form never quite fit, and she soon moved on to writing stories. She didn't have instant success: she collected a big box of rejection letters. As she puts it, "When the box was full I burned the whole damn thing, crammed myself into pantyhose and went to work for a temp agency." But after a few months of secretarial work, she managed to sell her first novel for $2,000. She immediately quit her job and started working full-time as a writer. After 12 romance novels, she switched to mystery, and created Stephanie Plum. The rest is history. Janet's favorite exercise is shopping, and her drug of choice is Cheeze Doodles. She and her husband live in New Hampshire, in house with a view of the Connecticut River Valley.
