Have you ever sat in your church pew on a Sunday morning,
half-asleep and bored like crazy? Does your spirit deep inside you
groan and ache for something more in your experience of Church
life?
If so, then ask yourself where most of our modern day church
practices come from? When you dig into this question you will find
out that most of our church practices don't come from the Bible,
but from pagan culture.
In this book the author traces the origins of some of the most
common church practices (Ex: Church Buildings, the office of the
pastor, tithing etc.) and shows how these practices are not inline
with a proper reading of the Bible. These practices are not
necessarily evil but they do undermine key truths about the church
and hinder the life and functioning of the Body. The author then
shows how church was really practiced in the early years. The
differences between now and then are truly remarkable.
In the book of Ephesians (3:10), Pauls writes:
"His intent was that, through the church, the manifold wisdom of
God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the
heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose which he
accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Is the Church in North America seriously expressing the manifold
wisdom of God to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms?
I believe that we the church need to reexamine ourselves to find
out what went wrong. I believe that this book will open our eyes to
where we have unknowingly gone off track.
I recommend this book for anyone who has ever hoped that the church
is something more than an institution.
She (the church) is far more. She is the most beautiful woman in
the world. And her radiance is yet to be seen.
