Wow, there is room for an essay here. Anyway, this book is really very good. it may be boring for some people, but for the thoughtful and reflective type it is an ideal diversion. yes, it is a novel of manners (what did you expect, it's Austen) about two very different sisters, Elinor and Marianne. They try to marry happily and the book is all about them trying to do so. Very gossipy and interesting content, really. As Mr. Bennett said in Pride and Prejudice, for what do we live then to make sport for our neighbours? The innumerable love triangles in all of Austen's books make them all like 19th century soap operas. Go ahead and try one; they're good. Books don't usually stick around for 200 years without a good reason!
