Postsecret: Extraordinary Confessions from Ordinary Lives

by Frank Warren

HARPERCOLLINS PUBLISHERS | November 17, 2005 | Hardcover

The project that captured a nation's imagination.

The instructions were simple, but the results were extraordinary.

"You are invited to anonymously contribute a secret to a group art project. Your secret can be a regret, fear, betrayal, desire, confession, or childhood humiliation. Reveal anything -- as long as it is true and you have never shared it with anyone before. Be brief. Be legible. Be creative."

It all began with an idea Frank Warren had for a community art project. He began handing out postcards to strangers and leaving them in public places -- asking people to write down a secret they had never told anyone and mail it to him, anonymously.

The response was overwhelming. The secrets were both provocative and profound, and the cards themselves were works of art -- carefully and creatively constructed by hand. Addictively compelling, the cards reveal our deepest fears, desires, regrets, and obsessions. Frank calls them "graphic haiku," beautiful, elegant, and small in structure but powerfully emotional.

As Frank began posting the cards on his website, PostSecret took on a life of its own, becoming much more than a simple art project. It has grown into a global phenomenon, exposing our individual aspirations, fantasies, and frailties -- our common humanity.

Every day dozens of postcards still make their way to Frank, with postmarks from around the world, touching on every aspect of human experience. This extraordinary collection brings together the most powerful, personal, and beautifully intimate secrets Frank Warren has received -- and brilliantly illuminates that human emotions can be unique and universal at the same time.

I love checking out the new secrets on the Postsecret website every week. This was not nearly as great. I honestly did enjoy it the first and second time I looked through it, because you devour each secret and end up relating to most of them in some way; But then it just got boring and I couldn't help but feel it was a little too self-indulgent.

I think I'll stick to the website from now on.

This was the last one that I read (I think I read them out of order) and it was probably my favourite. It was also the longest, so that might have something to do with it.
I honestly hope Frank Warren continues to make these books. The website is awesome, but when i'm having a bad day, it's just so much each to read these things in a book. They make me smile, laugh, cringe, sometimes all at once. These books give me hope for our species, when it comes to just have emotions, and being kind to other people.

This book is sensational. I've been a long time fan of the website and the book doesn't disappoint. All the postcards are excellent, and they show the range of human emotions that we all can go through. I genuinely felt like a better person after looking through this. It even inspired me to write a post card of my own. I always check out the website and for someone to come up with something like this is amazing. The author has helped people in more ways than anyone could possibly understand. Everyday people can relate to each other & realize that they are not alone in the world. If you like the site, you will LOVE the book.
I read it in one sitting. Like a voyeur, I could not get enough of other people's secrets. And I wanted to know more. I wanted to know who and why or how things turned out. I highly recommend this book for those who want to smile, empathize and wonder at the beauty some create from their pain, and how a postcard can encapsulate so much. Additional book that had a major impact on my life was "Scientifically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex" by Alan Ritz. Both books are exceptional

Sad, happy and everything in between comprises people's secrets. These books are fascinating and there is bound to be one postcard you can relate to. Such a simple concept started this amazing project.

Everyone has secrets. Some that are small, some that would be life changing if they were revealed.
By reading this book, you can laugh, cry and smile when you read the secrets of hundreds of other people. Some are just funny, silly secrets. Others will make you really think about your life. Perhalps you have the same secret as someone in here.
I recommend everyone reads this book. Not only because its a good light read, but because it allows you to reflect upon your life. Perhalps it will encourage you to write to postsecret yourself. Share that secret with someone, even if its anonymously.
Interested in more secrets? I recommend Frank's other published books, or go to www.postsecret.com every week - he updates the site every Sunday with new secrets.
You never know who's behind the postcard...

Several years ago Frank Warren left a number of postage-paid postcards around his home town with the simple instructions "tell me your secret." The rest as they say, is history. What started out as an experiment has turned into a full out cult movement with hundreds of thousands of followers around the world. This is the first book of compiled secrets. Only a mere fraction of what Warren receives every week, this book is truly cathartic in nature. Some secrets are silly, some outrageous, some break your heart. But whatever is being revealed you know that you are not alone with whatever is plaguing you. For more information about the Post Secret project, check out the website: www.postsecret.com

Everyone has secrets, the trouble is we usually feel we are the only one in the whole world with a certain one. Or at least that's what I thought until I read this book and saw just how many people share the same secrets as I do! Some are strange, some are sad, and some make you laugh. Either way it makes you realize that you're not alone with your thoughts, and keeps you very entertained at the same time!
(Check out the website, new secrets are posted every Sunday)

I work in a bookstore and came across this book through the recommendation of a customer. I read through the entire book on my lunch break and found it to be a great masterpiece. Some of these excerpts are heartbreaking, downright shocking and hilarious. You may just find one of your own secrets in this book and hopefully that will comfort you in knowing you are not alone. If you want to see the type of entries in this book, I recommend visiting the website which is updated weekly. A word of warning that you will be hooked!

This book is so simple in idea - but complicated in heart.
To read some of these postcards is heartbreaking at moments. You can only hope that those who sent in some of those cards have healed and begun to move on with their lives. But other postcards make you laugh! Sometimes due to their ridiculous nature, the light hearted stories to reading someone's guilty pleasure! Definitely worth a read. You'll cry - either from sorrow or just laughing!

This book is great in so many ways! A fabulous table book, with a conversation starter on each page; a striking compilation of the world's secrets, people brave enough to share, and show the world we are not alone. Some shocking, some uplifting, some that are sure to resonate with your own life!

This book is one of the best that I have ever read. It touched me in ways that I wasn't expecting. I am so grateful for this book and the emotions that I experienced. I have been telling everyone that I can about this experience. Read it, love it, share it with others! Thank you to Frank Warren and all those who sent in a secret for touching my life when I was least expecting it!! I am sending in a postcard of my own....

Some are so sad, some are really happy, some will make you laugh. I went through the whole book in one night, and the next day took it to work to share it. I have never had a book that was so good, and made me think about such simple things as this one did. It will get emotions going, and make you think. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who finds people in general interesting. Who knew that reading other peoples one line post cards would have such an affect.
