Prey Cdn Ed

by Michael Crichton

HarperCollins Publishers Ltd | October 23, 2003 | Mass Market Paperbound

In the Nevada desert, an experiment has gone horribly wrong. A cloud of nanoparticles—micro-robots—has escaped from the laboratory. This cloud is self-sustaining and self-reproducing. It is intelligent and learns from experience. For all practical purposes, it is alive. It has been programmed as a predator. It is evolving swiftly, becoming more deadly with each passing hour. Every attempt to destroy it has failed. And we are the prey…

Requires Speedy Eyes....!!!

This book inrtigued me from the beginning, having an interest in science, technology, computers and of course nano-technology it was sure to be something I enjoyed to read. I found this novel quite creepy, it literally made my skin crawl and made me think about how this could really happen in our lifetime. Not to mention this novel is so fast paced my eyes couldn't move fast enough accross the page to find out what was going to happen next.

Scientists are plunging further and further into microtechonolgy/biology, stem cell research and this book is probably not far from the truth. Michael Crichton wrote this in such a way one finds it hard to actually put the book down, I couldn't. I read it cover to cover in a short period of time and babbled on about this book at the dinner table. Of course this came highly recommended from my dad too, who after reading this decided to go against buying a certain mattress. I personally identified with the main character of the story, having been laid off from a career position before and being a single parent in the past it is no easy task. So dealing with the everyday domestic occurances along with an absent spouse and even stranger interactions with old collegues leads down a winding trail to where he discovers humans are the hunted.... the prey of a very advanced and hungry predator.... made by man.
