From the Publisher

In the Nevada desert, an experiment has gone horribly wrong. A cloud of nanoparticles -- micro-robots -- has escaped from the laboratory. This cloud is self-sustaining and self-reproducing. It is intelligent and learns from experience. For all practical purposes, it is alive.

It has been programmed as a predator. It is evolving swiftly, becoming more deadly with each passing hour.

Every attempt to destroy it has failed.

And we are the prey.

About the Author

Michael Crichton is best known for the novels Jurassic Park and State of Fear. He is also the creator of the television series ER. The first of his controversial novels was published while he was still in medical school.

definitley not his best. jurassic park and lost world are far ahead of this one. if this is made into a movie, it will suck. reading between the lines, i would say that this was contractual obilgations. read it if you have nothing better to do. MC has done much better. read more

    Requires Speedy Eyes....!!! 3

This book inrtigued me from the beginning, having an interest in science, technology, computers and of course nano-technology it was sure to be something I enjoyed to read. I found this novel quite creepy, it literally made my skin crawl and made me think about how this could really happen in our lifetime. Not to mention this novel is so fast paced my eyes couldn't move fast enough accross the page to find out what was going to happen next. Scientists are plunging further and further into… read more

A decent enjoyable listening experience 3

This review is from: PREY AUDIO CASS (Audio Book (Cassette))

I listened to this one on four cassettes, over the last week to and fro from work. It was quite a solid story, with the quick caveat that there's an introduction read by the author. You know that saying, "That guy has a face for radio?" Well, Michael Crichton has a voice for print. I could barely maintain listening and concentration to his part, and heaved a sigh of relief when he finally shut up. Then the story started - and it was good. Read by Robert Sean Leonard, he gave it a good go… read more

    Decent thriller 3

Jack is a "did the right thing and got fired" tech fellow, who specializes in writing code that mimics natural biological behaviour. His wife is working with a company doing something with nanotech. Things start to go wrong, and what escapes is nano-sized, pred/prey programmed, and self-replicating. Each chapter ends with slowly rising tension that I'm used to Crichton providing. If I have any qualms, it's with the not-always explained abilities of the escaped nanotech, and a somewhat… read more

    Awesome 5

This review is from: Prey (Hardcover)

Michael Crichton delivers another wonderful story. The amount of reasearch that this guy does in order to prepare for his novels is unbelievable. Everything is so accurate and so gripping at the same time. Michael Crichton has repeatedly held up a mirror to mankind's arrogance in its search for a technological solution to all its problems. read more

    Well worth the read. 4

Well written fast moving novel. He did his research well and it shows. The technologies are believable and his facts are up to date.. although if you are not in the sciences some nuances may be lost ('bow before me, for I am root ').. the ending does not have closure per say but there is easily room for a sequel. I'd love to see this as a movie. read more

    The Alien 5

This review is from: Prey Cdn Ed (Mass Market Paperbound)

Prey is one of Michel Chrichton`s best books, and it will catch anyone`s attention from the very begining. When Jack Forman, a stay at home dad, is starting get things staight in the house, weird things start to happen to his family. Amanda, his baby, out of nowhere started to turn purple everywhere and was examined by three of the best scientists/docter in the city. It always takes a left when you think it takes a right. There is so much suspense and so many different… read more

    Well.........it was......... 3

It was....ok. It was a super quick read, and was fairly interesting, but nowhere near his best (his best being Jurassic Park, Andromeda Strain and Sphere). I agree with Bonny, I felt no sense of closure at the end. It just kind of...ended. Maybe next time, M.C. read more

Wow, what a book. I mean I cant seem to find words to describe how I feel about this book. All you Michael Crichton fans out there, this is a must read. Word by word, page by page, he (Michael) kept me on the edge of my seat ... Kept my guessing whats going to happen next ... All in all, A MUST READ!!! read more

    Prey 3

I didn't think this was his best book, by far. Although I liked how the book was laid out, I didn't get much of a sense of closure at the end. In fact, it felt that there was a page or two missing from the end! It was a quick read, though, on a cold Sunday afternoon and was a good excuse to avoid doing the housework. read more

I normally really like Crichton's books, but this one just didn't pull me in at all. I can read A Case of Need over and over, this one I've stopped half way through and I feel no great need to continue... read more
