From Our Editors
Professor Otto Lidenbrock has a very important
scientific theory to prove: that the core of the Earth is not, in
fact, molten lava, but a mysterious and magical place! Based on a
series of mysterious events, including deciphering a cryptic
message written on a scarp of parchment by an ancient alchemist,
the Professor, his nephew Axel, his pretty young ward and the
mountain guide Hans begin the quest of a lifetime. A classic
adventure novel that both children and adults enjoy for its sheer
inventiveness and yet moments of intense realism, Journey to the Centre of the
Earth makes a wonderfully fitting accompaniment to
Jules Verne's
other epic, Around the
World in Eighty Days.
