Caitlin Kittredge has done it once again with heroine Detective
Luna Wilder. In this installment, Luna is back at work after taking
time off to heal. With a her new boss Captain Matilda Morgan, yes
Captain Morgan, how can it not be a hit.
Well, her new Captain isn't Luna's biggest fan, some things never
change for our plucky heroine, and saddles her with a partner,
something she has never had since turning detective. Luna has a
reputation for being a loose cannon, and none of the humans on the
force are all that gung-ho to work with a werewolf.
Her new partner is a transfer from vice, but she is a member of
Nocturne City's pre-eminent family of witches and bankers, and more
than a little fluffy. Luna has her doubts about of the partnership,
but has no choice, and she seems like a good inside track for
information when members of rival witch groups start turning up .
Shelby, Luna's new partner is part of Nocturne City's most powerful
family of Caster Witches (witches that cast circles and use nature
to make their brand of magic), but did not inherit the power
herself, much like Luna, making them both outcasts. When the rival
Blood Witches (witches who use blood and practice the blacker arts
to do their magic) blame Caster witches for the death of one of
their number, an all out war seems imminent.
Can Luna and Shelby put aside their differences and get to the
bottom of the mess causing all this? Will Shelby side with her
family or the law? I'll never tell you will just have to read this
series to find out.
This is one series that has it all, action, adventure, demons,
witches, werewolves, BDSM, lust and love. The only criticism I have
would be it was too short and it had a bit too much violence and
gore for my taste.
If you are a fan of Jim Butcher and his Harry Dresden chronicles,
or are a fan of Patricia Briggs', Mercy Thompson books you will
enjoy these as well.
