This book was given to me by my 2nd Grade Teacher as an end of school year gift. I was 7 years old, turning 8, and entering Grade 3--just like Ramona Quimby!! She was someone that I could completely relate to and would have loved to have had as a friend! I must have read this book several times over!! Beverley Cleary did an awesome job of portraying this funny, real little girl and her not so perfect family, and all of the trails and tribulations of being 8!! It has remained and will remain my favorite book for life and I will be giving a copy of it to each of 3 daughters on their 8th birthday!! And I'll be keeping my copy on my bookshelf wherever I go!!

This is a great book, and while reading it I found so many similarities between my much younger self and the main character. Cleary does a wonderful job of relating how the young Ramona views the world around her, whether at her school or home. I can remember the different fads at my school and my own attempts at getting out of the holes I'd accidentally dug for myself. If you enjoy this book, may I also recommend Cleary's Ralph S. Mouse.
