This is the best book I have ever read! I watched the mini-series on CBC first and have just finished the book. I was reading for 2 days straight! I just could not get enough!! This book made me feel like I was right back at home and I can hardly believe how some people endured these hardships. I think Canadians could learn a lot about Newfoundlanders if they read this book! I'm now halfway through the sequel. + read more

Outport Living

Random Passage's description of outport living brought to life the way my ancestors must have lived. My family tree research has been mostly numbers and dates, but this book opened my eyes on the endurance and courage the new settlers must have had. My ancestors were from Fogo Island, which even got a mention in the book! If you loved this one, try Kit's Law by Donna Morrissey. Its setting is more recent, but it's equally good reading. This book has to be the best I have ever read. It captures your attention and doesn't let go. A must read for all.

One of the greatest reads of all time. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, almost felt like I was back home as I read the lingo. Very well written.
