Anthony Horowitz doe it again. Raven's Gate is another excellent novel full of intrigue, action and adventure. I am a huge fan of Horowitz's Alex Rider series so I was expecting something that would grab me as fast as Alex did.

This book was a slow build to something fantastic. It took me some time to fall in love with the characters, but they are fantastic, diverse and colourful. My favourite thing about Horowitz is he never underestimates his audience and this remains true in Raven's Gate. The story is a little dark and heavy and Horowitz does not shy away from that. At times I thought it felt like The Da Vinci Code minus the boring bits and aimed at a younger demographic.

Matthew is a strong character who has had a lot of bad things happen in his life. I cannot wait to read what is next for Matthew, the Nexus and the Old Ones.

The first book in the stunning Gatekeepers series, Raven's Gate is a spectacular heart-pounding tale, complete with horror, humour, excitement, and adrenaline. Anthony Horowitz is able to grab and entrance readers using his amazing fluctuating plot line and his remarkable ability to keep readers on the edge of their seats. I enjoyed Raven's Gate, which follows the plight of a wrongly convicted juvenile delinquent that gets thrown into the despairing and secluded world of magic, the supernatural, and the just plain terrifying. Raven's Gate is a must-read for any teen who is brave enough to indulge in a heart-pounding horrifying adventure. Pick it up; I dare you to.

Another outstanding book written by Anthony Horowitz! He weaves a plot which, helped along by sinister fatalities and characters, acquires a distinctly ominous and unsettling air. As he mixes magic and contemporary sciences into the story it becomes more riddled with turns and surprises than a roller coaster. If you are an individual that loves an enthralling thriller or if you a first-rate mystery book you’re in for a shocker for this book is creepily exhilarating in its own way.

From the Critics

"Horowitz''s talent for building suspense is as strong as ever, and this unnatural tale, which descends into ancient evils, should attract a strong following." Publishers Weekly "It''s what''s inside all the thrills, however, that makes the book so strong: characters that readers will care about and root for." Booklist "This powerful struggle between good and evil is a real page-turner." School Library Journal
