At first glance, Red Claw is the story of 30 days in the lives of a team of planetary explorers. The explorers are a mix of Scientists and Soldiers whose mission is to catalogue and identify new species on a planet far from their home world. As the mission progresses, the team faces a number of challenges from within the group as well as the planet itself and ends up in a seemingly hopeless struggle for their own survival.

At its heart, I think this book was all about the importance of relationships and how they encourage personal growth and change. Now I will say it took a few pages for me to warm up to this book as it started out with a journal entry that included subscripts (a pet peeve of mine) but once I got past that, it was all good. I particularly liked how the viewpoint moved between the characters as it propelled the story along. It also allowed me to see how their internal and external conflict encouraged change and helped with their overall survival. I liked this book and do recommend it to others.
