For everyone who's Mom has never quite understood them!

This book is brilliantly written from a kid's point of view (i.e. "juice tastes better in the red cup"), so all kids will enjoy it. I thought it was a nice touch that Kelly's mom lost patience about having everything red. That is SO true!
And just for the record, my red sweater keeps me warmer, my red mitts make better snowballs, my red shoes make my feet dance, my red socks make my toes wiggle.....

I really enjoyed the book Red is Best. Re-reading it after many years (for a project) I've come to realise that it speaks a universal truth. That everyone has that one thing they hold on to and it doesn't matter if nobody understands it's special to them and that's all that counts (My red barrettes make my hair laugh - Kathy Stinson). I highly recommend picking this book up, it will be as much fun for you as for the child/children you are reading it too.
    - I also still have that cereal bowl, that my cereal doesn't get soggy in and that blanket that keeps me warmer than any other.

Red Is Best , by Kathy Stinson, illustrated by Robin Baird Lewis, Annick, 1983. This is one of those books that is earmarked as a classic the moment it appears. Everything about it seems just right for a toddler - the length, the tone, the simple but evocative illustrations, and above all the way Stinson seems to get right inside a toddler's passion and understand what the mother in the story doesn't - specifically that "my red boots take bigger steps" and "red paint puts singing in my head."

I'm sixteen years old and this is still one of my favourite books of all time. Because, really, you CAN make better snowballs wearing your red mittens. We all know it.
