Redeeming Love

by Francine Rivers

The Doubleday Religious Publishing Group | October 16, 2007 | Hardcover

Can God's Love Save Anyone?

Best-selling author Francine Rivers skillfully retells the biblical love story of Gomer and Hosea in a tale set against the exciting backdrop of the California Gold Rush. The heroine, Angel, is a young woman who was sold into prostitution as a child. Michael Hosea is a godly man sent into Angel's life to draw her into the Savior's redeeming love. This remarkable novel has sold over a million copies globally and has been a fixture on the CBA bestsellers list for nearly a decade. A six-part reading guide, suitable for individual use or group discussion, is included in this best-selling novel.

Story Behind the Book

"Writing Redeeming Love was a form of worship for me. Through it, I was able to thank God for loving me even when I was defiant, rebellious, contemptuous of what I thought being a Christian meant, and afraid to give my heart away. I had wanted to be my own god and have control of my life the way Eve did in the Garden of Eden. Now I know to be loved by Christ is the ultimate joy and fulfillment. Everything in Redeeming Love was a gift from the Lord: plot, characters, theme. None of it is mine to claim."

    Redeeming Love!

    Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

Having given my life to Christ in my teenage years I have vowed not to read circular books in terms of books that will not enhance my life as a believer. So I began to search for interesting writers that would keep me glued as well as teach me what I needed to enhance my growth as a young Christian.

I have read so many books but none can be compared to the "Redeeming Love" written by Francine Rivers, I ran into an old friend who was clutching on to the book, I got curious and wanted to know what type of book she was reading, she said it's a must read!. Long story short, I borrowed the book from her and it changed my philosophy about forgiveness and the greatest love a human can give to another human. Redeeming love is the kind of love story that will keep you turning page after page, as I read it, the love of God began to run through my mind, I began to see how I would backslide from my faith and His unconditional love will bring me back to Him.

The love Michael had for Angel is clearly compared to the kind of love God has for us, God was able to let Jesus die for our sins because of the love He has for us, despite all what Angel did in the story, Michael still took her back (I found that annoying but then I thought about how God must feel whenever I go back to my sins). Francine portrayed what real married love should look like and the contrasts between happiness and sadness, truth and lies, it's a must read for everyone especially people who are planning on getting married.

    Best Book Ever!

Mostly I read mystery but someone gave me this to read and I fell in love with this book. I thought I wouldn't enjoy the book because it had a religious plot, but I was pleasently surprised! In all the years I have been reading, this is my favorite book. My husband came home to find me sobbing over this book. I don't think I talked to anyone for three days until I finished the book. You will not be disappointed. Whether you go to church or not...you will love this book. :)

    Unbelievable Emotion

Redeeming Love is the amazing retelling of the book of Hosea, set in the mid 1800's. I was on a roller coaster of emotion throughout the entire book. Passion, rage, deep sadness, and ultimately an indescribable feeling of forgiveness, that I too, am loved this much by my Saviour, Jesus Christ.
I have a list of people who want to borrow this book... I may just run out and buy a few more copies.

About the Author

From 1976 to 1985, Francine Rivers had a successful writing career in the general market, and her books were awarded or nominated for numerous awards and prizes. Although raised in a religious home, Francine did not truly encounter Christ until later in life, when she was already a wife, mother of three, and an established romance novelist. Shortly after becoming a born-again Christian in 1986, Francine wrote Redeeming Love as her statement of faith. This retelling of the biblical story of Gomer and Hosea set during the time of the California Gold Rush is now considered by many to be a classic work of Christian fiction. Redeeming Love continues to be one of the Christian Booksellers Association's top-selling titles, and it has held a spot on the Christian bestsellers list for nearly a decade.

Since Redeeming Love, Francine has published numerous novels with Christian themes--all bestsellers--and she has continued to win both industry acclaim and reader loyalty around the globe. Her Christian novels have also been awarded or nominated for numerous awards, including the RITA Award, the Christy Award, and the ECPA Gold Medallion. In 1997, Francine was inducted into the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame. Francine's novels have been translated into over twenty different languages, and she enjoys bestseller status in many foreign countries including Germany, The Netherlands, and South Africa.

Francine and her husband, Rick, live in Northern California and enjoy the time spent with their three grown children and every opportunity to spoil their four grandchildren. She uses her writing to draw closer to the Lord, and that through her work she might worship and praise Jesus for all He has done and is doing in her life.
