A thought provoking and mindful look at the age and politics of Robert the Bruce. It was a time of devious and treacherous politics which is well covered by the author. The book is well written and is far from some of the typical dry writings that often characterizes authors who write of this period. This is unfortunate because this period of Scottish history is filled with political intrigue, drama and ever evolving international relationships. The author does a decent job to spark the readers interest and to pursue further research into a most interesting man who pursued and achieved the Scottish throne.

This is an excellent read for anyone who wishes to know who was the REAL hero of Scotland. Enjoyable for its historical information, one feels taken back 700 years and lives those terrible days of persecution and humiliation at the hands of an English King who knew no honour. Well worth the price.
