** spoiler alert ** First, the cover of this book is gorgeous. When Miranda's grandmother dies, she gets invited by her mom to visit Selkie island and help her pack up the house and get it ready for sale. Miranda never feels like she fits in with all the summer people who come vacation in their huge homes on the island then leave in September. The only reason she even hangs out with some of those kids is because her mom. She also meets Leo, a local boy she feels drawn to. I didn't really feel connected to any of the characters. The adults were mostly in the background, the socialites were mostly all shallow and annoying, we never really learn much about Leo, and Miranda's pretty closed off, even to the reader. And the whole supernatural/mermaid myths are just kind of there, wondering if they're true, but never really expanded on or confirmed. Same with other questions like the identity of Miranda's grandfather and if he was a merman. There's a lot of questions left unanswered and, when there's another book coming, I don't mind that, but it's been over two years since this bok came out and there doesn't seem to be any information about a sequel. That leaves a lot of questions unanswered.

Miranda Merchant is in for a big surprise this summer. She is joining her mother, prim and proper Dr. Merchant, on Selkie Island. She is going there to help her mother clean out the summer house she inherited from her estranged mother. On the way to the island by ferry she is warned by an old sea dog to be cautious of who she meets on the island. Her life is about to change in ways she never imagined, having gone to a Science Prep School back in New York City. On the Island she starts to learn about her mother's past, as a southern belle who vacationed on this island year after year. She also meets some of her mother's friends from her youth. Miranda is also trying to get away from her past to some extent. Her ex-boyfriend and ex-best friend are both people she is trying to push from her mind. Here she meets other summer people, and daughters of her mother's friends - southern belles who pick dibs on who they will hook up with for the summer. But she also meets a strange island boy Leo, who seems different but in a good way, and maybe in a dangerous way. Good girl Miranda starts taking chances and risks she would not have done at home. I picked up this book because I loved This Totally Bites - Poison Apple Book 2, written by Aimee under the pseudonym Ruth Ames. The cover of the book also attracted my attention. The mix of legends and myths, and a bit of mystery in a coming of age story, is wonderfully done. Aimee Friedman has written a wonderful story about love, falling in love, loss and grief and combines it all in a cohesive whole. It is a great story and we can only hope that we will encounter Miranda and the mythology of Selkie Island again.

This book was actually quite good. The romance will definitely give you that giddy feeling inside. However, I did find that the relationship between the two characters Miranda and Leo did develop a little too fast, but overall this book was pretty good. The plot and characters will just have you wanting to read more and more! This was a page turner for me – almost desperate to find out what happened next with the two characters. The book was definitely simple, cute and easy to follow.

I found it kinda slow after the books I've been reading lately. But it was a nice story regardless. Simple, basic storyline that was easy to follow, and cute romance. I really liked Leo's character. 3

Yes, the romance was UNBELIEVABLE!...but the relationship was too rushed and there wasn't enough of the fantasy. I did love the characters though, and the plot, and because of them I couldn't stop reading. Though, when It ended I felt like It shouldn't have ended, and that it was cut short. Friedman did an amazing job of creating the connection between the two characters, it felt so real, and as if they have known each other forever--even though they just met... I really liked this book because of the romance, it's what kept me reading. An Island rife with legend, lore, and an unbelievable past-- put together with an intriguing romance between a girl from New York and a mysterious local boy... Miranda Merchant is leaving New York for the summer and entering Selkie Island where she will stay in their family home passed down from generations. She's sixteen--but not your regular sixteen year old, she spends her free time doing experiments and studying science. She's levelheaded and and isn't afraid to be herself. The moment she steps on the ferry to Selkie Island, she hears of the things you should beware of that lurk in the waters--and that there are mysterious creatures that you would never believe in unless you saw them. Of course, Meghan doesn't believe it, Science says so. She meets her mom by the loading dock and they head to their home--The Mariner. It's a huge house filled with mystery, where her grandmother once stayed in. She finds out more about this mysterious island, and meets a local boy on Siren Beach. He appears out of no where which leaves Meghan with questions, he's intriguing and Meghan wonders if she will ever see him again. Meghan meets a group of girls close to the family, but all they think about is boys, clothes, parties, and more boys. She doesn't exactly fit in with them, but they welcome her in a heartbeat. They introduce her to T.J., an extremely handsome, well mannered, prim and proper guy...But she can't stop thinking about Leo. The romance deepens, and more of the mystery is questioned. Meghan never thought that she would have two boys interested in her, and that her family's past has more to it than she could have ever known... I really liked this book, but I would have liked to see more of the mystery and fantasy behind the island, there are questions not answered and It feels as if that there will be a sequel by the way it ended. I kept flipping through the pages to see when Meghan and Leo were together again, their romance is unbelievable!!! If there is a sequel, I wouldn't second guess If I should read it, I would in a heartbeat!!!!! Overall, a good read that leaves you hanging on the last word!!! 2010-023

Well, I'm glad that I bought this with a gift card becuase I found this book a little on the expensive side...but thats just me. Personally this book was a little predictable for my liking. It had a good story outline but it could have been better so much better (and longer) I did like this book, and the characters were pretty funny and easy to visualize but I don't know, something lacked. This is a good summer read.

I just finished reading Sea Change and was disappointed. I am a great reader of fantasy based novels, Young Adult and Adult. This book left me feeling incomplete. I felt the love story was too rushed, the characters lacked depth and the ending felt too shrouded in mystery. I love a great mystery mixed into my romance, but this was too mysterious. This book was just not enough....

When I first picked up this book, I was unsure of what it would be like and I wasn't sure if I would like it. In the end, it turned out to be a great book. It was romantic, as well as mysterious and deeply intriguing. It wasn't completely cliche and the main character miranda is one that I think many can relate to, but all in different ways.

I read this book in one sitting. I loved the unique story line. Shrouded in mystery and intrique, this story could have taken a turn towards silly, but thankfully never does.
