After reading Sea Crossing in the anthology "Shifter" I fell in love with the Children Of the Sea series.

This was the first book in the series and is about a female Selkie named Margred (Maggie). One night while looking for a man to scratch an itch, she finds Caleb Hunter. Caleb is the chief of police whose had a rough past. His mother took off with his brother when he was young, his dad's the town drunk and he's a war veteran who still has nightmares from his time fighting.

The two get together thinking that it will be a sort lived affair until Maggie is attacked by a fire demon who destroys her pelt, trapping her in Caleb's world. When Maggie finally works up the courage to tell him who and what she really is, he doesn't believe her.

It turns out that Caleb is closer to Maggie's world than either of them know. Together they must find and stop Maggie's attacker before a war breaks out between the humans and the children of the sea.

A great book that should be read by any fan of paranormal romance.

A Bit Slow But Not Bad

I thought the book was sort of slow, lacked human emotion on the heroin’s side of things, and yes I realize that was the point. We’re to see her grow as a being and become more human and learn to love in the end. Yes all that happened but I found it hard to grow attached to her character due to the lack of humanity in her. I find it interesting though, that with most authors the main characters that are immortal tend to chose immortality over almost any thing and usually the other character that is teamed up with him/her get immortality as well in the end so they can live out a long existence together. Virginia Kantra took a different angle on the whole immortality thing and choices that go along with it, and it worked for her in the end. The story line was good, and like I said a bit slow but in the end I’m still intrigued enough that I will get the next book in the series.
