Elinor Dashwood is affectionate and good-natured--but above all, prudent. She takes pride in her ability to conceal her emotions from others. Her younger sister, Marianne, on the other hand, is everything Elinor is not: impulsive, romantic, and carefree. It''s hard to imagine two sisters who could be more different.

But twists of fate will unite Elinor and Marianne in a tangled web of deception that could ruin each of them.

Both have decided to marry. Elinor has made a sensible decision and has set her sights on a man she believes will be a good husband and a decent provider. Marianne--swept away by emotion--has lost her heart to a handsome, dashing charmer. Men as different as night and day: but each sister believes she has made the perfect choice.

    Yawn

Not the worst of the worst but a yawn... didn't get through it... too boring. It was the audio book version and listened to during the last half of a 13 and a half hour drive, so I may not be the best judge.

    Great Read!

Something about this story made me love it. I think it was her sister's love affair in the background. I love that it didn't shadow over the main love affair but in a way complimented it. In true Austen Style she has a quiet and responsible character and a wild and outspoken one with Gentlemen at the ready.

I quite enjoyed this book and am a fan of Jane Austen. Although some may find it boring you really need to get into it and read the first few chapters so you can get a picture and understanding of the characters and you will be drawn in!

Elinor and Marianne Dashwood--two sisters with very different personalities--are faced with the same problem. English law prevents them from inheriting large sums of money. Therefore, their only real alternative is for each of them to find a proper suitor and marry into money. About the Author

Jane Austen's life is striking for the contrast between the great works she wrote in secret and the outward appearance of being quite dull and ordinary. Austen was born in the small English town of Steventon in Hampshire, and educated at home by her clergyman father. She was deeply devoted to her family. For a short time, the Austens lived in the resort city of Bath, but when her father died, they returned to Steventon, where Austen lived until her death at the age of 41. Austen was drawn to literature early, she began writing novels that satirized both the writers and the manners of the 1790's. Her sharp sense of humor and keen eye for the ridiculous in human behavior gave her works lasting appeal. She is at her best in such books as Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814), and Emma (1816), in which she examines and often ridicules the behavior of small groups of middle-class characters. Austen relies heavily on conversations among her characters to reveal their personalities, and at times her novels read almost like plays. Several of them have, in fact, been made into films.
