Shoe Addicts Anonymous

by Beth Harbison

St. Martin's Press | April 1, 2008 | Trade Paperback

Four different women. One common shoe size. And a shared lust for fabulous footwear.

Helene Zaharis's politician husband keeps her on a tight leash and cancels her credit cards as a way of controlling her. Lorna Rafferty is up to her eyeballs in debt and can't stop her addiction to eBay. Sandra Vanderslice, battling agoraphobia, pays her shoe bills by working as a phone-sex operator. And Jocelyn Bowen is a nanny for the family from hell (who barely knows a sole from a heel but who will do anything to get out of the house.)

On Tuesday nights, these women meet to trade shoes and, in the process, form friendships that will help them each triumph over their problems---from secret pasts to blackmail, bankruptcy, and dating. Funny, emotional, and powerful, Shoe Addicts Anonymous is a perfect read for any woman who has ever struggled to find the perfect ?t.

    Fun Read...with Shoes!

Chick-lit fans will definitely enjoy this novel! It was a cute, fun chick-lit book about four women, who at first glance seem to have very little in common, but come together because of their love for shoes. The women have extremely different lives (from a politician's wife to a nanny) and extremely different problems, but each of them had aspects of their lives or personal problems that I could (and I think most women will) relate to.

The ending did not tie up the stories of the girls but I suspect this was planned as there is now a sequel to this book, Secrets of a Shoe Addict, which came out in July 2009. Planning on picking that one up soon :)

So basically, it was an interesting idea, intriguing concept for chick lit and then it just went no where. The ending wasn't conclusive, the characters were wacky but severely lacking in development or likability.
I kept reading in hopes that it'd get better, it didn't. The ideas were all there and they were great, but the book just turned out to be a total blah.

I thought this book was absolutely hilarious. It was very easy to read - and even easier to get into. I fell in love with the characters, and found myself really relating to them. I would definitely recommend this book.
