Shopaholic & Sister

by Sophie Kinsella

November 28, 2006 | Mass Market Paperbound

What's a round-the-world honeymoon if you can't buy the odd souvenir to ship back home? Like the twenty silk dressing gowns Becky found in Hong Kong…the hand-carved dining table (and ten chairs) from Sri Lanka…the, um, huge wooden giraffes from Malawi (that her husband Luke expressly forbade her to buy)… Only now Becky and Luke have returned home to London and Luke is furious. Two truckloads of those souvenirs have cluttered up their loft, and the bills for them are outrageous. Luke insists Becky go on a budget. And worse: her beloved best friend Suze has found a new best friend while Becky was away. Becky's feeling rather blue-when her parents deliver some incredible news. She has a long-lost sister! Becky is thrilled! She's convinced her sister will be a true soulmate. They'll go shopping together, have manicures together.…Until she meets Jessica for the first time and gets the shock of her life. Surely Becky Bloomwood's sister can't…hate shopping?

Sophie Kinsella is a former financial journalist and the author of the bestselling novels Confessions of a Shopaholic, Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, Shopaholic Ties the Knot, Can You Keep a Secret?, and The Undomestic Goddess. She lives in England, where she is at work on her next book.

    Good Series

I love this series. But Becky's naive concepts about life and the real world always makes me laugh. Finally we see Becky get mad at a person she is forced to love and can't fully understand but when she realizes her mistake she does the most un-becky thing or maybe the most becky-like thing to ammend

It was a hurting book to read!

Seriously, the first two shopaholic books were so funny. The third was good but not great and the fourth was just ridiculous. I know how people get over shopping. I am a serious shopaholic myself and i could relate with Becky (on some things) but i think Sophie Kinsella just made Becky way too stupid in this book. I really hated the beginning of the book. Yeah, we get it, it's funny because she's a shopaholic but no one is that stupid. It's so unrealistic and not funny. As for her new sister Jess, well there was another thing Kinsella exaggerated with. No one is that frugal, i just absolutely cannot believe that someone out there is that damn cheap, it gets to the point where her frugality is really annoying and not funny.

Shopaholic & Sister was great, don't get me wrong... but after the first 3 books, and Can you keep a secret?, I think I had just put a little too much anticipation into it...but nonetheless, it still encases the Kinsella charm and delivers witty and seamless fiction... and I am now highly anticipating the next one, which I presume will be called Shopaholic & Baby ??? YaY!! :)
