Shopaholic Takes Manhattan

by Sophie Kinsella

Random House Publishing Group | March 2, 2004 | Mass Market Paperbound

The irresistible heroine of Confessions of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Ties the Knot is back! And this time Becky Bloomwood and her credit cards are headed across the Atlantic.…

With her shopping excesses (somewhat) in check and her career as a TV financial guru thriving, Becky's biggest problem seems to be tearing her entrepreneur boyfriend, Luke, away from work for a romantic country weekend. And worse, figuring out how to pack light. But packing takes on a whole new meaning when Luke announces he's moving to New York for business-and he asks Becky to go with him! Before you can say "Prada sample sale," Becky has landed in the Big Apple, home of Park Avenue penthouses and luxury boutiques.

Surely it's only a matter of time until she becomes an American TV celebrity, and she and Luke are the toast of Gotham society. Nothing can stand in their way, especially with Becky's bills miles away in London. But then an unexpected disaster threatens her career prospects, her relationship with Luke, and her available credit line! Shopaholic Takes Manhattan-but will she have to return it?

    Good Series. Funny reads

I love this series. But Becky's naive concepts about life and the real world always makes me laugh. I love that this book shows Becky standing up for herself and taking charge of her life. I would recommend this series to anyone who can laugh at the most outrageousness person

    Characters not-so-great

It really wasn't a bad book. Definitely didn't end the way I expected it.

The story was great and very well written. The problem I found was the characters. Becky just seemed really dense. The trait in the previous book made for the great story, but now that readers know that she has a degree in accounting and business the whole idea of her not knowing how to manage her money made me dislike the character a bit. I am very glad she found her true calling at the end though.

Luke was either on one end or the other. I just really hate male characters that go all out for their relationship one chapter and then do nothing the next. But since that made for the storyline, I can forgive. It just made it harder to read.

Other than that, good book. I just really really hope that Becky smartens up with the shopping next time.

I'm not a fan of chick lit but this book, the sequel of Confession of a Shopaholic, is a must for every readerholic. I really enjoyed reading Becky many problem with her obsesion of shopping, it was funny, light and highly enjoyable.
