From the Publisher

The year is 1954. U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels and his new partner, Chuck Aule, have come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane, to investigate the disappearance of a patient. Multiple-murderess Rachel Solando is loose somewhere on this barren island, despite having been kept in a locked cell under constant surveillance. As a killer hurricane bears relentlessly down on them, a strange case takes on even darker, more sinister shades-with hints of radical experimentation, horrifying surgeries, and lethal countermoves made in the cause of a covert shadow war. No one is going to escape Shutter Island unscathed, because nothing at Ashecliffe Hospital is remotely what it seems.

Shutter Island is a tremendously satisfying thriller. It plays games with your mind the whole way through, and is an exiting page turner. The suspense is incredible with a plot that will keep you guessing. I liked that it had some comedy to it and was not serious throughout the whole novel, and lightened the mood and made it an enjoyable read. Chuck Aule: “All I know is it's a mental hospital.” Teddy Daniels: “...for the criminally insane.” It's a great mystery, and then there's that… read more

    Good Easy Read 3

This story was easy. Lehane writes in a very readable style with lots of dialogue that makes the pages turn fast. Given the time, this book is easily readable in a day or so. The story is an interesting one with a surprise ending that might leave you scratching your head thinking about the possibilities. A good "beach book" or type of read that you can pick up and put down at a moments notice.
