About the Author

James Ball was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario where, after an inspiring flight in the jump seat of an Airbus A320, he enrolled in aviation at Seneca College. He graduated with an Aviation and Flight Technology Diploma in 2001 along with certification as a Com-mercial Pilot and a Multi-Engine IFR rating. Following graduation, he moved to Thompson, MB where he worked for a small regional airline. Beginning his aviation career in a non-flying position on the ramp loading bags and cargo he paid his dues before getting his first flying position as First Officer on an Air Ambulance. He went on to become both a Captain & Training Captain on charter aircraft. While in Thompson, he also spent time working as a substitute teacher for the School District of Mystery Lake.

In 2005, James returned to school where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in Geography at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Currently, James is studying law at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Since returning to school, James has kept current with developments in the aviation industry and continues to fly recreationally when time and finances permit. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, playing hockey, squash and golf and attempting to play something that resembles music with his bass guitar.

Looking at getting into aviation I thought , hey the perfect book. I was also lucky enough to speak with James personally. The book is great, the examples and experiences he provides are great. A very comprehensive look at the profession, the training and the lifestyle. Great read, and like the others had a hard time putting it down until I was finished. I think every profession should have a book as detailed as this. A+

To all prospective readers, and James Ball:I enjoyed reading this book so much that when I picked it up, I skipped meals, and didn’t put it down until it was read cover to cover. The information provided is well researched and Ball has done an excellent job delivering it in a concise non bias manner. I would recommend this book to all aspiring pilots and/or people already in the industry who want to be more knowledgeable of the ins and outs of Canadian aviation and training in the todays world… read more
