Something Borrowed: A Novel

by Emily Giffin

June 1, 2004 | Hardcover

Something Borrowed tells the story of Rachel, a young attorney living and working in Manhattan. Rachel has always been the consummate good girl---until her thirtieth birthday, when her best friend, Darcy, throws her a party. That night, after too many drinks, Rachel ends up in bed with Darcy''s fiancé. Although she wakes up determined to put the one-night fling behind her, Rachel is horrified to discover that she has genuine feelings for the one guy she should run from. As the September wedding date nears, Rachel knows she has to make a choice. In doing so, she discovers that the lines between right and wrong can be blurry, endings aren''t always neat, and sometimes you have to risk all to win true happiness. Something Borrowed is a phenomenal debut novel that will have you laughing, crying, and calling your best friend.

A Keeper!

Never would I have thought that I would cheer on someone who has an affair with her best friend’s fiancé. An act like that is lower than low, it’s down right dirty. Yet there I was rooting Rachel on and cursing the selfish snobbish Darcy. I decided to pick it up after having read a few reviews online and was interested in the plot since I am currently helping a good friend plan her wedding. Now I think I will make her read it too, because as much as she might dread the though of a best friend ever having an affair with her fiancé, I know she will love it. This is the type of novel that makes you shut off the rest of your life just to finish it, and then makes you run out to pick up Something Blue (the sequel) to see what happens next. I would recommend picking up Both Something Borrowed and Something Blue at the same time to save precious time running to the store to get the next one, because trust me you will want to know what happens next!
